SHIPPING FAQs

Where do you ship beef?

We ship beef from Yellowstone country in Montana to the continental United States. At this time we do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or internationally. Local pick up and delivery is available.

A physical address is required for carriers (UPS and FedEx). We cannot ship to P.O. Boxes or APO addresses.

We do offer some shelf stable products (caps, mugs, etc) that can be shipped non-perishable.

When do you ship?

We ship only on Mondays and/or Tuesdays but no later than Wednesdays each week to ensure delivery by end of week. Exclusions apply for holidays, weather delays and other unforeseen events.

Orders placed after weekly shipping day are shipping on the next Monday/Tuesday.

How is beef packaged and shipped?

All Felton Angus Beef products are processed by USDA inspected, small family craft butchers, perfectly aged and flash frozen in individually sealed air tight packages. Your Felton Angus Beef order is hand packed in a custom designed insulated and recyclable shipping box with dry ice and/or cold packs.

How will my beef arrive? Is it frozen?

Beef is custom packed in an insulated shipping box with dry ice. It will arrive frozen, partially frozen or below refrigerator temperature. Beef should be placed in freezer or refrigerator immediately upon delivery.

We recommend an order minimum of at least 5 pounds to ensure optimal frozen packaging, shipment and delivery.

My beef is partially defrosted. Can I still refreeze it?

Yes, as long as beef is partially frozen and at least refrigerator cold (below 40 degrees F internal temp) it is safe to refreeze.

Just like when you buy meat at the grocery store, it has been frozen and kept refrigerated. You purchase, take home and can safely refreeze.

USDA guidelines state: If food is still partly frozen, still has ice crystals, or is as cold as if it were in a refrigerator (below 40 degrees F) it is safe to refreeze or use. It is not necessary to cook raw foods before refreezing.

Please refer to food safety guidelines when handling, cooking and serving beef.

How do I safely handle/dispose of the dry ice?

Each order contains dry ice. The bag that contains the dry ice is clearly labeled. In the even that the order is roughly handled and shifting occurs, it is possible for the dry ice to ship and some may fall out of the bag.

Dry temperature is extremely cold at -109.3°F or 78.5°C. You should ALWAYS handle dry ice with care and wear protective cloth or leather gloves whenever touching it. If touched briefly it is harmless, but prolonged contact with skin can freeze cells and cause injury similar to a burn

Safe handling tips:

  • Dispose of unneeded dry ice by letting the unused portion sublimate in a well-ventilated area. Please be sure that you do not leave this in a public area or area where it can be accessed by children or pets.
  • You should never dispose of dry ice in a sink, toilet or other device. This can destroy the structure because of the temperature difference.
  • Do not place dry ice on a tiled or solid surface counter top as the extreme cold will cause damage.
  • Do not dispose of dry ice in the trash or garbage.

Thawing safe handling recommendations

Perishable foods should never be thawed on the counter and must not be left at room temperature for more than two hours.

Refrigerator Thawing

  • Place the item you wish to thaw on a plate with a lip or bowl on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator to ensure that any drippings aren’t spilled onto shelving or food below.
  • A pound of ground meat can require a full day to thaw in the refrigerator.
  • After thawing in the refrigerator, items such as ground meat and stew meat should remain safe and good quality for an additional day or two before cooking.  Red meat cuts (such as roasts steaks) should remain safe and good quality 3 to 5 days.
  • Food thawed in the refrigerator can be refrozen without cooking, although there may be some loss of quality.

Cold Water Thawing

  • If you forget to thaw your beef for dinner, this method is faster than refrigerator thawing but requires more attention.
  • Thawing in cold water, 40 degrees or below, is safe and faster than refrigerator thawing.
  • The bag should be submerged in cold tap water, changing the water every 30 minutes so it continues to thaw.
  • Small packages of beef (about a pound) may thaw in 1 hour or less.
  • A 3 to 4 pound package may take 2 to 3 hours.
  • Once thawed food must be cooked immediately and should not be left out.
  • Foods thawed by the cold water method should be cooked before refreezing.

Microwave Thawing

  • Not recommended
